A Book To Help With Identity Crisis

Anynomous writes: “I want new chapters to help me discover myself and help me find my identity <3”

Dear Anynomous,

I understand the desire to uncover deeper truths about ourselves, often driving us to search for some form of identity that defines who we are. This pursuit is natural, as understanding ourselves can provide clarity and purpose.

However, identity is not a fixed concept. We experience identity as a train of thought. It comes and goes. Both ancient philosophers and modern scientists suggest that searching for an identity is just a trick of the mind. You might wonder why this is the case.

Our identity lies in just being. Existing. We have been given life and free will to do whatever we want to do and be whoever we may choose. Our interests change, along with our thoughts and perceptions. If I am a huge book enthusiast for years, and suddenly lose the interest in reading, does that mean I lost a part of my identity? Absolutely not. Identity isn’t confined to fleeting interests; it’s rooted in the essence of our existence and the choices we make.

David Hume, an influential 18th-century philosopher, argued that when we seek our true selves, we encounter nothing more than a mix of thoughts and emotions that constantly change. Modern neuroscience backs up this perspective, showing that the brain operates without a singular, centralized control.

Tomorrow, as you wake up to the sunlight streaming through your window and breathe in the crisp morning air, take a moment to reflect on the freedom you have. Each new day gives you the chance to define who you want to be, how you choose to act, and how you engage with others. Take comfort in just being, knowing that every sunrise brings the possibility of renewal and growth.

Book Recommendation

I wholeheartedly recommend Luna by Robert Naprta. This novel follows the journey of a young girl who, after the tragic loss of her parents, leaves her village behind to start over in a big town. She moves in with her uncle, aunt, and cousins, seeking comfort, only to find herself surrounded by mystery. The family’s strange behavior and the secrets they seem to guard—ranging from her parents’ “unsuspicious” deaths to hidden rooms within the house, and even her true identity—pull her into a dangerous web of lies. This supernatural thriller will captivate your imagination from the very first page, leading you through a thrilling tale of self-discovery and uncovering haunting truths.

Wishing you the best on your reading journey! ⋆.˚🦋༘⋆💗ྀི
